Hi !

I'am from Suisse and have a few questions about skating in Paris.

For the Friday night skate, is it a problem to join the ride without any protections (knee pads, helmet, etc) ?
I know, it's strongly recommended, but i i havent any.

If i skate for myself in Paris, whats about the protection ? (Police etc...)

If i skate alone through Paris, shall i take the street or the pavement (resp. is one of them forbidden, resp. untolerated, if it's forbidden but tolerated it's also good) Skills exists...

Whats about the metro ? can i join the metro with skates ? resp. can i take with the skates on the metro till montparnasse ?

thank you for each hint !

Some answers smile.gif

- For the Friday Night Fever, you don't have to wear protections... It's better for you but it's not an obligation...

- For skating in Paris : it's the same thing as in the FNF for the protections, there's no rules, just your willness. But, for the french law, a roller is a pedestrian : so you're not allowed to take the street --> Use the pavement ! You can use cycle way, no one will blame you for that, even the police... But for the street, they can make you trouble...

- For the metro : unfortunately, it's totally forbidden sad.gif Have your shoes, or walk in socks tongue.gif RATP agents can make you pay about 40 or 60 (not sure for the price) euros because you use roller in the metro :/

If you have more questions, ask smile.gif

Linguistic note: pavement(UK) == sidewalk(US), the place where pedestrians walk, and cars are normally forbidden.
Sociological note: in Paris, these places are also fair game for bicycles, high-velocity pizza-delivery mopeds, etc.. rolleyes.gif

What Icy says is true: we are not legally allowed to ride on the streets. Well, unless the sidewalk is "unpractical", which is a rather subjective notion.
Note that the fine for doing so is the one for a "pedestrian violation" and is a whopping 4 euros! (unless you make your case more serious by rebelling against the cops...)

Note also that I quite often ride the streets at night, often crossing with cop cars on patrol, and have never been arrested. It's also probably a question of "attitude": if you freeride like crazy, weaving in and out of heavy traffic and jumping over cars, then you might get into trouble. If you ride semi-seriously, minimizing your disturbance to motorists and the risks for everybody, the cops won't bother with you.
Frankly, I fear much more potential accidents with crazy drivers than encounters with the police.

Salut !

by the way, I would like to ask you, where can i find some good
place-square, where I can ride a bit ?

I know there are some rollers at Trocadero and between Louvre and Palais Royal,

do you knowe some more good spots (especially north from Champs Ellysses).

Best regards
Icy
Invalides is a good place, there is a place just behind the Air France Building, you'll often see hockey players and rollers there... Good ground for training, and people are normally cool and can give you some advices if you need
