Hi, I'm going to tour Paris next month and want to join Pari Rollers for one night. As you might assume, I'm not familiar with Paris.

Could anybody please explanhe where exactley are we going to skate?
what is the route, and especialy- where does it end?

If the tube (Metro) closes at 00:30 and the night skate is not done by 1:00 a.m. how could I get back to my hotel room?

ThanX, Noaa.

Hi !

The route is a loop of 3 hours and 30 kms in Paris, and changes every week ( we do a new route every week )
We start at 10:00 pm and end at 01:00 pm.
The skate ends where it starts.

About your hotel, it depends where it is... You can leave the skate before the end if you need to take the tube, but maybe you can go to your hotel by skate.
What is the address of your hotel ? Maybe it is near Montparnasse ( the meeting point ).

The skate ends just before 1am, depending on where you're heading for, you may or may not catch a metro home.

The metro does not finish at 00:30 (unlike, say, the London tube) - rather, the last trains leave their respective terminii at around 00:30. For example, on line 12, it means that the last southbound train reaches Montparnasse at around 01:15am. So if you need to go to Mairie d'Issy (south terminus of line 12), you get there by 01:25am. Neat smile.gif

Having said that, if you can skate 30km you won't mind skating a bit more to get home - anything within zone 1 (Central Paris, or Paris intra-muros) or 2 is easily reachable by skate, after all.

If you stay in zone 3, 4 or 5, well, you need to drive, mate, what can I say?

My hotel is by the Arc of triumph.. I guess it's to far skating there..

I think I'll just have to leave the group early. Hope I could easily find a Subway station.. unsure.gif

Also, Is it safe (I'm a female) to go by subway alone at midnight..?

Arc de Triomphe is about 20-30 minutes away from Montparnasse (where the ride ends), depending how fast you skate. But that assumes you know your way around Paris, and are comfortable skating the streets at night. Might not be so easy in an unfamiliar city.

I would advise against it, particularly considering you'd be in "foreign territory". When you are not attuned to the local habits and unspoken codes, you might get into situations you'd rather avoid (female or not, by the way).

Maybe your best bet would be to catch a taxi ride back to the hotel ?

Or hook up with some other riders that are going your way and ask them to ride along with you back to the hotel (er, uhm, make sure you're clear on your intentions, lest there be some misplaced expectations... tongue.gif )

Sorry for the shameless plug, but just in case you do not know about it, there's another mass skating ride in Paris, on sunday afternoons. It's less spectacular (Paris nights are magic) and somewhat slower (more family-oriented), but it's a very friendly atmosphere too.

It depends of the line... but if you don't take the RER, it should be ok wink.gif

i think it's more dangerous to walk in the street than being in the subway at half past twelve

You should juste ask someone to come with you I think... Many skaters come to Paris by car... I don't think it would be safe for you to go alone...

Well, tell us the friday when you'll be there and meet us at the beginnig of the ride, we could do it together ! (No I'm not a man trying to end the night with you at your hotel wink.gif, don't worry.

PS : Do you speak french ? If you do and you've read the rest of the forum, you know we meet every Friday Night at 21h30 with (most of the time) Tommz, Trash, Icy, Beuh-fa etc... So tell us if you come on the 15th or the 22nd April, and give us a detail to know it's you ...

There may not be any problem as you will not go back to a random, dangerous place, even by night. However, as the others say, you could easily get lost as you don't know our lovely polluted city. You should find someone kind who can speak English. Like me tongue.gif

As I live in the near eastern suburb I usually pull off my skates at around 0:30 (the last train comes before 0:50), when we ride by the line 1 of the metro. It serves the Champs-Elysées and the Arc of Triumph.

Don't get down to the underground at Châtelet-les-Halles ! I highly unrecommend if for your safety.

If you plan to ride on the 8th or 15th of April, let me know it ;p

hey Numanuma,

Sorry but we know plan to ride in the middle of the ride week, so 2-3 days before the ride.
The plan to ride changes every week.

Best regards wink.gif
Numanuma

your hotel is at arc de triomphe so you can get the tube (Line 6) at the station Etoile and you go to the station Montparnasse Bienvenue. it's the starting point of the Friday Night fever

Rike,

Thank you for the info, I spent a brief moment on the map and kind of figured my way around. Just one last question, I've got a friend with me on this trip, and the problem is he is not very steady on blades and prefers cycling, can he cycle on this weekly tour? If yes, how can he rent a bicycle near the starting point?

I dont want to leave him out for this trip.

Cheers.
Dennis.

He can Cycle after but not in the ride.

There's a few Cyclists which are following the ride, after the police cars which are closing it.
