Salut tout le monde,
I am writing a article on the Friday Night Fever Skate, and I have a question for everyone who would like to answer (but mostly for those of you who have been skating for many years):

Don't you get bored skating around Paris every Friday night after a few years? What makes you keep coming back?

Merci d'avance!
Heather

Hi Heather,

i've been skating for about 6 years around Paris with the Friday Night Fever and i don't get bored.
There are many reasons that make me coming back:
First of all, i like Paris and i like skating in Paris, i also like Paris by night and skating with other riders.
The way is different each time.
At the beginning, i didn't know anybody but now i know a lot of people skating on fridays and that makes me coming back. the FNF is a good idea to meet friends who are riders.
I also started to help the FNF by making videos, mobile site ...

Hello,

I've been doing the FNF for 4 years and I don't get bored at all.
Even if you have already been several times in a same street there is always something new to see or to do ;-) , and some streets (downhills?) are really fun.
Moreover you can become part of the organisation and change the way you do the FNF.

What makes us coming back?
Friends we met in the FNF, the pleasure to have the streets just for us without any car, no red light at crossroads...

David is right - I've been on staff for almost four years, and I've missed on average four skates a year. I've met my boyfriend, my best friends and a whole bunch of chums in and around the staff.
It never gets boring.

I guess it's like going to a gym - do people get bored of going to a gym a seeing the same wall all year round? Why do they come back?

Only thing is, when skating you actually get outside and see a different side of Paris every time!

Hi !

Why do we ride every week ?
I think 'coz we love that sport, that city, that association...
Course is each time different... Roads are blocked for us, letting us ride in security condition...

His Royal Highness Prince of Wales plays polo as regularly as his schedule allows...
Nobody asked him why ...
His sons His Royal Highness Prince Harry developed his love of sport, particularly polo and rugby...
Nobody asked why ...
Runners of New York City Marathon come back every year...
Nobody asked why ...

Passion is the key word...

Why would one get bored doing a fantastic exercise once a week using a different route? People exercise for health reasons, fun and social reasons....it makes you feel great. Working out at a gym 5 days a week for 10 years would be more boring. I walk 3 miles 3 times a week and have used the same two routes for the past 5 years because they are sidewalk accessible. This Friday Night Fever Skate sounds very diverse to me.

Rollerblading is a way of life... Do you ever get bored of breathing the same air? lol!
I think we come back every week because it's a passion, something to share, and something that's quite addictive: I feel really bad when I don't make it.
It's never the same, even the times when we use an already used route through Paris.

One year after, you're some kind of archeologist Greenmantle ? laugh.gif

I think also that one of the most attractive aspects of the FNF are:

1. to be able to pass at red lignts (very difficult not to stop at the beginning)

2. to be able to skate Paris by NIGHT, with all its illuminations and beautiful buildings (I got several falls at the beginning for not looking at the road)

3. in a few hours, you let all your week stress behind you. and for free...

4. as the other said, why a reason, when you just love it smile.gif

Definitely not - the routes are different every week and seeing Paris at night from the streets is pretty cool.

I moved here from Rockville, Maryland (USA) in summer 2004 and quickly got hooked. First I started on the Sunday blade - too slow - and then graduated to the FNF. Never went back!

Not having to worry about hitting pedestrians (or skating through dog poop) makes skating in the streets a much more pleasant experience than on the sidewalks.

The FNF staff and police are outstanding - very well organized every week.

Blading on long downhills and through the tunnels is a blast.

It's great exercise and a nice way to end the week even if sometimes it's a bit exhausting.

Thanks FNF staff!!

Thank you Brian!
It's nice to get a word of thanks occasionally - I think most people don't realise that it's not all fun what we are doing. Quite often, I'm hoarse by the end of the skate, from shouting "keep to the right please" and stuff like that. Yet after 5 1/2 years on staff, I wouldn't miss it.

See you (next, every...) Friday!
